Jim has been helping his clients work toward their financial and retirement goals for over 18 years, and has built a reputation for his straightforward advice, outstanding service, and attention to detail. After spending many years working for large financial institutions, he founded Wilkinson Capital Management (WCM) in 2016. As an independent registered investment advisor (RIA), WCM acts as a fiduciary to provide clients with objective advice that is always in their best interests.
Jim is a graduate of the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, where he received a bachelor’s degree with a double major in Finance and Risk Management. While attending the U of MN, he was recognized for various achievements, including Academic All-Big Ten honors as a student-athlete and member of the Golden Gopher football team.
In 2004, Jim earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification, awarded by the CFP® Board of Standards, Inc. The CFP® certification is the recognized standard of excellence for competent and ethical personal financial planning. Individuals certified by CFP Board have taken the initiative to demonstrate their professionalism by voluntarily submitting to a rigorous certification process that includes demanding education, examination, experience, and ethical requirements.
Jim is active as a volunteer in the community. He's been involved as a mentor and guest speaker for undergraduate students at the Carlson School of Management, president of a local Lions Club, HOA board member, and an assistant high school football coach. Jim is a native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and now resides in Shoreview, Minnesota with his wife, Stefanie, and their five children.
